2002 Cannes Classical Awards: Winners
About the Award
The Cannes Classical Awards was established seven years ago, organized by the chairman in cooperation with several premiere international music magazines. The purpose of the award is to recognize the universal appeal of classical music in creating a truly international recording award, one in which the typical bias and local preferences common to these events are effectively counter-balanced by the multinational make-up of the jury. Each year several hundred critics from six countries (Hungary, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United States) take part in the voting in approximately 20 different categories, while special awards such as those for Lifetime Achievement are selected by the chairmen and the editors of the participating magazines. The Award Ceremony itself takes place in January at the MIDEM international music convention in Cannes, France. Winners are published by the participants in their February issues.
